Why it’s time to travel to Crete
*Crete is the epicentre of Greek Tourism
*Increased Flights to Crete from the UK
*As the highest tourist revenue driver for Greece, Crete is protected by the government and therefore is extremely safe for foreign visitors
With summer fast approaching many are looking for ideas of where to travel to in Europe. Greece is an obvious destination for guaranteed sunshine and pristine beaches, however the headlines about Greece may have deterred some visitors, without knowing the full story. The destination is still very much safe, private and an ideal escape.
It’s no surprise Crete is the leading tourist destination for Greece, with no currency crisis, stunning landscapes, beaches and array of beautiful hotels, in particular the leading luxury resort Domes of Elounda. The hotel boasts an ideal spot along the jaw-dropping Cretan coastline with stunning and panoramic views. Only 3 hours and 55 minutes out of Gatwick, nearby Heraklion airport makes this an utterly perfect destination, ideal for families travelling with little ones. Following an extensive multi-million pound expansion the hotel is a fashionable and stylish retreat, including 28 brand new luxury residences. All accommodation is exquisitely designed and comes with an outdoor heated Jacuzzi or a private swimming pool. The hotel is ideal for both couples and families alike as it offers designated adult only and family friendly venues and experiences.
As the highest tourist revenue driver for Greece, Crete is protected by the government and therefore extremely safe for foreign visitors. And the airlines are taking note. With the success of the new Heraklion route last year, BA is introducing a new route this season to Crete at Chania. And the Greek national airline, Aegean Airlines has also increased its capacity to the UK market with six flights a week from London Gatwick to Heraklion. Additionally, airlines and tour operators are seeing growth in sales to Crete, with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays reporting their biggest ever increases with 12 new destinations including Crete (from 27 May there will twice weekly flights), just in time for summer.
Award winning Domes of Elounda is located in one of the loveliest parts of Greece, the cosmopolitan Elounda; a long-time A-list secret location, favoured by host of famous faces such as Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Rhianna. Domes of Elounda is a delightful retreat with breath-taking, 360 degree views of cerulean blue and not to be forgotten this summer.
